During my twenty-plus years working in public accounting, I have listened to many clients excitedly describe some new business venture they want to undertake. It's a delicate moment for me, as I have to be careful not to dampen their enthusiasm. I try to warn of the pitfalls, but when they have that fire in their eyes, I know the warnings will be ignored. Emotionally, their decision has been made and they are anxious to get started. What I see is a long look as though they had just stared at the angel of death. My experience has taught me that the reason people launch new businesses without adequate preparation is that they don't realize the extent to which they are putting their financial and emotional lives on the line.
Most people wouldn't jump into a leaky old boat with no provisions and no experience and head out to sea, because it is obvious that the chances of surviving are slim to none.
Why are people willing to jump into a new business without adequate preparation? It is because their dismal chances of survival are not as obvious. As a result, I decided it was time to write a "war-is-hell" e-Book, using a gloves- off approach, and simply tell it like it is to make it obvious. Therefore, this e- Book is intended to portray a vivid illustration of how an individual can become seduced into starting a small business prematurely. The author did provide excellent pointers which should be considered before we venture into a business, small or even big, I believe.The way John W. Day wrote this book is very engaging, it made me read every line and understand what he really wanted to communicate. I felt like I am in a conversation where I am listening to someone sharing his thoughts and knowledge about this matter from which I am learning a lot.
What I liked about this book is that it did not mainly focus on what to contemplate financially but also personally. All of the cornerstones here were great but what I liked most is the self test. I believe, you have to start with you to become successful in whatever you do. This is a good read and this book would be of great help to anyone who are planning to get a into small business.

This is an easy to read little book with some powerful information packed into it.The four cornerstones that the author outlines are somewhat intuitive but he brings a different perspective to them and some much needed common sense to the situation. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone considering starting their own business.
At first when I thought about starting a business I was overwhelmed all of the information detailing what could go wrong a start up company. The contents in this book is certainly something you want to know about prior to opening a business. As the saying goes- most start ups fail in the first 3 yrs! The advice the author gives from an accounting perspective will help anyone start a business – creating a game plan that can be tweaked to one’s business. I’m really happy that the book was an easy read and informative.
This was a good read. There are so many aspects that are overlooked when it cones to this topic, and so many possible scenarios that can play out based on each step taken as an entrepreneur. The Author paints pictures of domino effects from just a single decision when running a business. He gives good directions in setting a proper foundation for your business so that numerous pitfalls can be avoided. There's just no way to make running your business free from obstacles, but doing the very best you can to get it going and remain afloat comfortably is the dream we're all going after.
