“The strongest element of this work is the writing itself. The diction, rhythm, and syntax work effectively to evoke a sense of the time, setting, and tone of the piece as a whole. It reads smoothly, clearly, and evocatively for readers, giving us the ability to inhabit the narrative fully. It's clear that the author is in control of the intentions for this story, and so we, as readers, can trust that we are in good hands as we read.”
It’s not the end of the world. It’s the beginning.
On December 29, 1890 the U.S. Calvary put a brutal end to the Ghost Dance in the Wounded Knee Massacre . Before the soldiers finished their slaughter one small boy danced a prayer to save his people and in his dying vision, reached out to the one who could lead them into a new life.
It is summer and that prayer is about to be answered. Luke Kimball is The Divided Man, a global security expert who isolates himself from emotional involvement because people who get close to him end up dead.
On the eve of the war that destroys the world the Ghost Dance prayer finds him, spinning the Hoop of his life in directions he could not have imagined. Claimed by the prayer, Luke is connected to past and future, chosen to be a savior of legend, a unifying force of past and future, of man and god.
Luke must awaken the Sacred Tree of Life and balance the harmony between human and spirit existence or lives of all will cease to exist. Opposing him is the Manitou, an elk-headed god who has stolen Luke’s soul and requires death for its return.
Luke’s quest takes him across a land sundered by war and on the verge of miraculous change, far into the realms of once-mythical gods and deep within him to face the demons that have haunted his life.
His journey is inward as well. Luke is guided into the Spirit World and across time by Native American deities who help him discover his destiny as not only as a human savior, but as a god.

I met John Sauer at the laundromat in Vancouver, WA. After discussing our Kindles, he mentioned that he had a book out that I might enjoy. He was so right!! I thoroughly enjoyed the plot with enough twists and turns to make it a great read. I do wish that he had used a proofreader other than a possible one in his writing program as there were enough errors that at times it became difficult to concentrate on what was happening. I would highly recommend this book, even so, to those interested in science fiction/fact with a touch of fantasy:) So glad I ran into John at the laundromat.Product details

The Divided Man edition by John Sauer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I opened the sample and was immediately turned off by the Courier font used. The author might want to consider changing the format to make the book look more professional.
I gave the book three stars because a rating is required. Since I haven't read the book and am commenting only on the format, the rating is irrelevant.
As you begin to read a story and the words quickly become pictures in your head you know you have hold of something good. Then shortly, the pictures in your head become a dream like reality as if you are in a motion picture. You know you are imbarking on a great story. John Sauer takes you into a dream state that takes you from American Indian folk lore to nuclear bombing to raw survival with many twists and turns. I can't wait to read it again!
Wow...if you like reading about Native Americans and their great Spirits and dealing with wwIII nuclear aftermath and survival with a little bit of romance this is the book for you. I felt like I was watching a movie unfold in front me as it is well written. It goes to the past and yet also is in the year 2012 when things drastically change for the main charactor...hard to put down and definatly not a short story.
Great book, I loved it!!! The theme is resonating with all the old traditions (Native American, Hinduism, Buddhism...) and I suspect John Sauer to be an Indigo Man himself!
John Sauer's "The Divided Man" is a great read. After I finished the first few chapters, I was unable to put it down. I loved the characters, particularly, Luke Kimball, who truly was a divided man. The other characters were great too. I despised Brother Jed. This novel is a combination of suspense, supernatural, science fiction and a bit of romance. I think that almost anybody will enjoy this story.I can't wait to read it again!
Interesting read. Found the characters interesting and well defined. Recommend. The story line was not one that I would want to live through but very interesting
I enjoyed the story; the author has an engaging style and can paint with words well. I was, however, put off by the numerous errors. These included grammar, punctuation (eg, frequent use of the contraction "it's" instead of the possessive pronoun "its"), word usage problems (eg, using "clobbered" for "clambered", awkwardly fragmented sentences--I know some were done for effect, but some just didn't work), sudden switches in point of view, inconsistent tenses (eg, moving from past tense to present tense in the same sentence), and a variety of typos (eg, omitted words, omitted letters in words), inconsistent formatting (eg, the size of paragraphs indentations varied, paragraphs ran together). Also, I was surprised at the chocie of font for the book. Courier makes me think of rough draft, and I wonder if a rough draft was published by mistake? That would explain the errors and inconsistencies.
About halfway through the book, I started skimming. The problems bothered me enough to stop reading every word, but the author's skill at telling an story is good enough that I wanted to find out what happened. I very much appreciated the messages of the story--unity of humanity, how each of us has two sides to our character. So, I give the story three stars for content, but nothing for structure.
